Welcome to The World Metal Alliance.

If you've never heard of us before, then you've just found a significant piece of heavy metal history that some still know nothing about despite our successful decade and a half of operation. Chances are you've heard of the PMRC, but never heard about the organization that formed to counteract it. No surprise, the press rarely reports anything positive about heavy metal. But while many mainstream accounts and documentaries have chosen to ignore the existence and positive triumphs of our organization, it does not diminish the important role the World Metal Alliance has played within the heavy metal subculture since it's inception in 1992. And, it cannot alter the fact that thousands of heavy metal fans and musicians throughout the world have come to recognize the WMA as the sole icon of unification and heavy metal advocation. So if you're wondering, "What exactly is The World Metal Alliance and why is it here?", read on.

Fifteen years ago, as the early 90s ushered in the close of metal's finest decade, a growing wave of misinformation, political correctness and organized opposition threatened it's very existence. For those of you who may not be old enough to remember it, it was one of the darkest times in the history of metal. Metal was ignored by the music industry and disrespected by the media. Metal T-shirts were being banned from public schools. Students who listened to heavy metal were being sent to counselors for rehabilitation, which psychologists started calling "de-metalizing". Metal legends were being put on trial to defend their lyrics. And the opponents of heavy metal, both left and the right, were joining together to lobby congress for censorship and label laws.

At the time there was no such thing as an organization of metal fans banded together to defend their music and their rights. There were no efforts to reverse the negative inaccurate stereotypes. There were many advocates, but no unifying force. Before the unprovoked series of attacks against heavy metal, there had been no need for one. But as the threats increased the situation demanded it. This was the climate in which the The World Metal Alliance was conceived. Even though it may have only been a matter of time till someone would start an organized opposition, there was and always will be only one first.

And now that you've finally found us, on behalf of the thousands of members of this organization, we invite you to join and become part of heavy metal history. The quote at the top of this article, which was the first published independent online review of our organization, said it best - "World leaders have the UN, head-bangers have the WMA". Here's where you are able to unite with thousands of others, young and old, of all races, nationalities, political beliefs, and genre preferences in a rare atmosphere of mutual respect, standing together on one single common ground - heavy metal.
