Band Name: Eternal Flight
Genre: Melodic Power/Prog Metal
Country: France
Samples: http://www.myspace.com/eternalflight
Q: What is your opinion of the current Metal scene in your country
Gérard Fois (Lead voc): There are many really good bands in every style of Metal but for the genre that we play there are not enough real managers or clubs, promoters.
Q: If it the scene is lacking, what have you done to overcome this obstacle?
Gérard Fois (Lead voc): We tried also to look at others countries as we sing in English.
Arnaud Gorbaty (drums) : Passion can take over anything ! Even though we don’t get to play as much as we’d like to, we try to give the best we can each time we are on stage. We are also planning to play abroad, especially through Europe, to get to meet new people, to realize what the Metal scene is like in other countries, and to support our songs live.
Q: Have you faced any other challenges such as blacklisting, censorship, etc.?
Gérard Fois (Lead voc): Not from what we know but you always meet some jealous people who are driven crazy by the fact we have some international distribution and great reviews worldwide…
Q: Who started the band and how did you all get together?
Gérard Fois (Lead voc): I started the band. In fact in the beginning it was still named Dream Child but as I was the only remaining member I decided to rename it fast and start a new one though based on the roots of my previous band. I met Christophe (lead guit) early 2001 who presented me Nicolas (bass) I knew Arnaud from the band Alkemyst, he joined end of 2001 and recorded a demo and made a few concerts. In February 2003 we had to replace him with Alexandre Stellini (but he came back definitely in 2006) who introduced us to Sébastien (Keys).
Q: How did you decide on the name for the band?
Gérard Fois (Lead voc): Eternal Flight was the name of a song from my previous band, it was a way to remind to those who knew my past that there was a link and a continuation. It’s a cool name that allows a lot of freedom for the lyrics, the music, it is quite majestic.
Q: How often do you practice together?
Gérard Fois (Lead voc): Not enough I’m afraid lol! We now don’t live in the same area!
Q: What's the biggest venue you've played?
Gérard Fois (Lead voc): It was an outdoor venue in Annecy- France in front of 1500 people or maybe more!
Q: Can you describe the song writing process for your songs?
Gérard Fois (Lead voc): For the 1st album most of the songwriting came from me but we arranged the songs together. For the new one it was more a team effort. We usually bring some riffs and a partial structure to a song and we jam around it. For the next album, we are also trying to record a lot of stuff on pc and exchange files or re arrange and record parts on them. The lyrics come after usually but for the next album we’re working on a concept so we’ll adapt also some of the music.
Q: What's the worst thing that's ever happened during a show?
Gérard Fois (Lead voc): I had a virus on my throat because of a cold, I was tired and was smoking a bit at the time and my vocal chords suffered of it and I had to sing very low and change melodies in order to give a decent performance. But I didn’t cancel the shows, no way! Now everything works!
Sébastien Vibert (Keys) : I had a virus too, but it was in my “over computered” keyboard !!!
Arnaud Gorbaty (drums) : Messing up with a song part thinking about another one as I couldn’t hear the other band members through my monitors while playing new material live for the first time.
Q: What's the best thing that's ever happened during a show?
Gérard Fois (Lead voc): lol during one of the show I was sick, I also made some kind of pyrotechnic effects throwing some tea (accidently) on the pa! I was sick but made a Kiss show! More seriously I love when the fans sing our songs!
Sébastien Vibert (Keys) : To me, it was when we were playing “Ghost (with a different Soul)”, many people of the audience raised there lights up. It was really great and I felt we were on the same trip with them…
Arnaud Gorbaty (drums) : Anytime I “connect” with my bandmates. Observing the public reacting very well to new songs, and getting their congratulations at the end of the show.
