Thanks a heap TKF.

I am currently re-ripping my old recorded broadcasts to upload to AR which takes a few hours so AR is offline for a little bit here.

If AR ever came back I'd let you know.

I will not do it. I've done it three times now. I will not do it again. Maybe at some point in the future somebody else will ask me if they can re-launch AR and manage/build/DJ the whole f***ing thing. I would DJ but I will not be the guy who pays the bills and does all the f***ing work alone again.

I'll be a backseat driver and certainly a trainer for new DJs but nothing more than that.

If that day comes brother, I'd love to have you on staff.

Don't hold yer breath.

Well It's good to hear where we are standing with future possibilities of AR.
I would love to do it myself, but I do not have the time to manage, build and dj... and I am lacking money at the moment too.
Any time, though, I would be more than happy to DJ.

Ill respond in NBs stead.

Im guessing its AR's tendancy to be stubborn. Some folks it works just fine 24/7 - and others - it just acts like a bastard all the time.

It has alot to do with your downspeed, IP provider and background ****e you have running. One would think it'd be alot simpler - but the real case is that a simple radio feed is truly dictated by a whole buncha BS you prolly wouldnt even think would bother it.

Prolly why internet radio hasnt taken off like many thought it would. Too many variables. Lord knows when I was Dj-ing there were plenty of questions - and half of it were simple PC issues. The other half were stupid ass provider issues we couldnt solve firsthand.

If you can get it - awesome - if you cant - at this point I suppose theres not much I/we can do for ya. Play your fav metal CD and pretend its AR =)

AR used to work for me, but recently its been being a bastard... For the last few months I've had to re-save the damn file every time I stopped it and turned it on, even though it's working fine for TFK, someone whose bedroom is next to mine and uses the same network!!!

I'd be more than happy to take it over if I had the set-up and the know-how. Even if I could afford all the equipment I'd need and enough room in my apartment for it, my doing it would be kinda like  trying to do brain surgery with only a high school education.

You know, that could be my first song- Metallica's Crash Course In Brain Surgery.

Of course, as I said, I'd probably end up making like Larry, Curly, Shemp, and Moe rolled into one.

It takes these basic items.

A web host for your website. Unless you want to run a 24/7 web server from your home you'll need to hire web hosting at about $50 a year for a simple package unless you don't want your own webpage like AR.

A broadcast server. When you are broadcasting live, your PC is the server. Unless you can guarantee that someone's PC will run 24/7 (like we tried to do) you'll need a broadcast server to broadcast the feed when you are not. Unless you only want to do live only and no 24/7 type thing.

A broadcast host. You can't just send a stream into the net. You need a host like Live365 or AudioRealm to take the signal from your PC and turn it into a world wide broadcast.

    - those two broadcast servers together will be in one package and will run anywhere from $29.99 a month up to the hundreds. I was paying about $50 a month.

Broadcast software. I can give you the install software and instructions for the virtual DJ booth we all used at AR. I could help with training one person in but no ongoing support.

All broadcasters need cable. DSL won't cut it.

You need a decent microphone attached to your PC. Most DJs sound like **** because they won't spend $30 on a headset mic.

AR never died for slow load times. We lost a few people with ****ty PCs and ****ty connections but what the f*** can you do about that? Get off dial up and buy a f***ing real system people.

AR died because people found better things to do with thier time, because the harder I tried the less people cared, because the novelty wore off, because people would come and go so there was no consistency, because people are busy and dedicating a few hours on a weekend night to listening is not always easy to do.

Once people start getting disinterested and busy and the listener count drops to ****, the DJ finds something better to do as well. Trust me. This was year 3 of AR. I found better things to do a few times. This was my last time.

If you want to pursue this....

Read into Live365, AudioRealm, any of their competitors for a broadcast host. Read into web hosting for a site. You only need 10 songs to do an hour. Any moron who thinks you need 55 minutes of music to do a one hour slot is just that.

Feel free to PM me with more detailed questions.

This thread is way off topic and I am unsticky-ing it.
