ADEK (Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge) government continuously works to provide a high-quality education system that encompasses all ages. The UAE cabinet made free education (From Grade 1 to 12) and it is compulsory for every citizen of the UAE since July 2012. However, special students are exempted from this rule. Non-UAE students have to pay fees to attend government schools, there are some private Indian as well as International Schools regulated by ADEK that charge fees.
Government schools and universities follow the Arabic curriculum and are gender-segregated.

The private Indian/ International school has emerged as one of the key providers of education in the UAE to meet the needs of expatriate communities. A greater number of expatriate students attend Abu Dhabi Indian School.
There are around 181 private schools catering to more than 165,000 students. These schools offer CBSE, International Baccalaureate (IB), curriculum along with mandatory Arabic language.
All Abu Dhabi Schools are regulated by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), a government organisation that assesses all the schools in the capital every 2 years; rate them and publish their detailed results.
