The American actor and director William Louis Petersen was born on 21 February 1953. He has won a Screen Actors Guild Award and has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation series (2000–2015) for his role as Gil Grissom. He has also been nominated for three primetime Emmy awards as the producer of the show. In the sequel of CSI, he will reprise his role as Gil Grissom. He is famous for his role in To Live and Die in L.A. (1985), Fear (1996), Detachment (2011), Manhunter (1986), Young Guns II (1990), The Contender (2000), and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012).

Early life

Petersen, the youngest of the Six children of June (née Hoene; 1909–2006) and Arthur Edward Petersen (1901‐2004), a furniture worker, was born in Evanston, Illinois. He was born in the Roman Catholic tradition of his mother of Danish and German descent. He has two brothers, Arthur Jr. and Robert, Anne, Mary Kay and Elizabeth, were his three sisters.

In 1972, he graduated from Boise, Idaho, Bishop Kelly High School. He received a football scholarship from Idaho State University. Petersen took an acting course in the State of Idaho, which altered the direction of his life. In 1974, he left school with his wife, Joanne, and went on to study as a Shakespearean actor. He was very interested in Basque culture and he studied the Basque language. He gave his daughter the Basque name Maite Nerea (meaning My Beloved); she was born at Arrasate – Mondragón in 1975.

Career

In 1981, William debuted on a big screen with the movie “Thief,” and then, in 1985, he played the role of a Secret Service agent “To Live or Die in L.A.” He performed in 1986 in the first movie to feature Hannibal Lecter, “Manhunter,” as FBI agent Will Graham. In the award-winning 90s miniseries “The Kennedy of Massachusetts,” Petersen portrayed Joseph P. Kennedy. In the 1998 television feature film “The Rat Pack,” he later played John F. Kennedy. Even in 1989, “Cousins” and 1990’s “Young Guns II,” William appeared. He’s done marvellous works in his entire career.
